Gilded mace (pernach) in a case with Ukrainian hetmans
A mace is not only a weapon, but also an ancient Ukrainian symbol of power and greatness. A pernach (or pirnach) is a mace with metal plates (feathers) attached to the top. A six-pointed mace, like this one, is one of the most popular variants of a pernach. Here, the decorative plates are marked with carved images of a heraldic lion and a cossack.
This mace is made of copper, covered with gold, and the portraits of the hetmans are covered with silver and enamel. The handle also has a leather-covered area for a comfortable grip.
